Mrs. Johnson's Corner

About Me

Hi! I am Allison Johnson, the new Principal at Jenkins Elementary I am originally from Wilkes County in the foothills of NC. My family and I moved to Catawba County in 2016. I am married with two children, a boy and a girl who are in fifth and eighth grade, and a mommy to a poodle named Jake. I enjoy spending time outdoors, reading, listening to music, working out, and being with my family.

I am in my 21st year in public education. In my 21 years, I have taught second, third, and fourth grade, and served as assistant principal at Longview Elementary and Southwest Primary, prior to serving the Jenkins and Oakwood communities. I earned my Master’s in Elementary Education and School Administration from Appalachian State University, as well as my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from ASU. GO APP!!!

I believe that students learn best when students are held to high expectations, have positive relationships with school staff members, and know they are safe within the school. Our Jenkins' students experience all these essential learning components and much more!

As we are about to begin our 2022-2023 school year, we are hoping that it will be even more normal than we have had in the last 3 years. It is such a great feeling! We are going to resume our house competitions, PBIS redemption days for individuals, school wide PBIS quarterly rewards, and our school/house leaders! We also plan to bring back a cheer crew that will welcome students to school throughout the week. We have more amazing things in the works for our Bobcats! Whew! Amazing opportunities are taking place for our Bobcats!

The 4 houses

Here at Jenkins, we use a house system that is superhero themed. When a student enrolls at Jenkins, he/she spins the sorting wheel that places them in their superhero house. This house is the one they stay in throughout their career here at Jenkins. Jenkins staff members are also in a house. When a student earns points based on the SuperHEROES matrix, those points also go towards their house. Each house competes to have the most throughout the year. Rewards are given throughout the year to the house with the most points. For the 2021-2022 school year, AVENGERS won.
Which house will win
this 22-23 year?!?!?!

PBIS

We are a PBIS school here at Jenkins. We have high expectations in all areas of our school that is set forth in our school wide behavior matrix. When our students are following expectations, they earn points. We use LiveSchools to record students earned points. Once they have earned enough points, students can redeem their points during monthly redemption days or can choose to hold them for bigger rewards. Students also work towards being able to attend/participate in the school-wide quarterly PBIS reward.

PBIS is a research based strategy that has been proven to work in positively reinforcing student behavior. Parents can access their child's points also. Ask your child's teacher for access codes. Check out the House News information below!
